Rare 1st Edition Louisa May Alcott's The Candy Country; from a group of stories originally written Dec 9 1854 for Ellen Emerson, daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson. This 1st separate edition is part of a group of stories from A Garland for Girls (released as 11 books in collection My Girls printed between 1899-1904). It is illustrated and has 3 half tone plates. Lovely Book with Green, Pink and Gold decorative cover...Quaint child's story of originally published in the 1800's. Nice book for your bookshelf or side table; charmingly quaint shabby chic decor...Very pretty book. This volume contains two short stories The Candy Country--a tale of a young girl Lily who takes her mother's big red umbrella and ends up blown into candy country. She finds herself going on more adventures through a land of gingerbread, cakes and cookies until ending up enjoying the land of wholesome bread. Her adventures teach her to become a better housekeeper and to enjoy sweets only at Christmas time and a second story How They Ran Away about two young boys Tommy and Billy who decide one day to go off into the woods to become hunters. They have adventures along the way but find they are very much lost and separated from each other in the end. These stories are written for the young and for children so it won't appeal to everyone but if you are an Alcott fan, you will probably like it. They are a classic Victorian morality tale teaching charity for those less fortunate and the betterment of others--thinking of others, obedience and diligence.

Book cover in very good vintage shape--was protected by paper cover--bright firm binding. Scarce Paper Jacket. Book is in good vintage condition for age--almost 130 years old. Green binding with Accents of gold and pink. Some slight light staining on interior pages (darken aging/foxing) Photography lighting is showing some extra lights/shadows. Interesting list of children's friend series books published by Little, Brown, and Company, publishers in back. Please see photos as they are part of the description.
