Details: circa 1950's Approx 22 3/4" circumference Approx 11" measured over the top of crown side to side. Black hat veiling. Satin fabric bows on velvet hat with satin trim on edges. "Sculptured Cap" Juliet hat with scalloped edges. Label Harzfelds Kansas City. BOX NOT INCLUDED Hat is is good shape and appears to not have been worn or worn very little--taken care of and put away carefully. Harzfeld's was an iconic department store in Kansas City first appearing as the Parisian Cloak Co. in 1891 and continuing to offer fine goods specializing in women's and children's high end apparel at their Petticoat Lane location in 1911. Petticoat Lane was "the place" for fashionable goods in Kansas City through the 1970's in KC. It was Kansas City's main retail thoroughfare much like New York's Fifth Avenue. Harzfeld's expanded to 5 more stores in the Kansas City area and stores in Columbia, MO and Oklahoma. Harzfeld's closed it's stores in the early 1980's. The store was renowned for it's 1947 mural commission for a painting by Thomas Hart Benton. After the store closure, the mural was acquired by the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
