(Be Sure to click "more" for listing details) Classic Mid Century Vintage Small Footed Pedestal teacup typical of the mid century Japanese teacups that were so popular with the "ladies that lunch". This cup would be a lovely tea cup to enjoy your breakfast or afternoon tea. Dainty and delightful china cup and saucer ready for a "spot of tea". My grandmother always said that tea tasted better when you were drinking out of a china cup.
This would be the special shower or tea party gift for that special someone who would love an indulgence. It is a classic Lefton "cabinet" cup--pretty in the hand and pretty on the shelf. This is another Tea Cup/Saucer set from an estate of a lady who collected beautiful teacups. It is a typical Mid Century cup and saucer set from a time when women collected teacups to display and to use...pretty on the shelf and pretty in the hand...a perfect indulgence. The lady who collected this cup originally was part of a club where the members exchanged teacups at various events which involved good times and a "spot of tea".

DIMENSIONS and SPECS: Teacup is approx. 3 1/4" tall and the saucer is approx. 5 3/4" diameter across. The cup is approx. 4 5/8" across the top at the handle, including handle. No obvious chips, cracks. Marked Lefton china hand painted with a crown motif and also a paper sticker with Lefton china. It is painted in the style of the Japanese tea cups produced for the American market in the post war years. Gold accents on edges and on dainty scrolled handle. Rose floral decoration on body of cup and saucer. "Scalloped" edges on cup and saucer. "Ivory" tone background with small pedestal base on cup. China Cup and Saucer body has a fluted rib pattern. The Lefton Company was stared by George Lefton; a Hungarian immigrant, who came to Chicago in 1939 and imported Japanese china after WWII beginning with items from Occupied Japan. He befriended a Japanese shopkeeper whose shop was vandalized after Pearl Harbor and helped him rebuild his shop. The thankful shopkeeper knew that George collected porcelain and had a love of beautiful pieces so he helped him make contacts with Japanese factories so that he could begin his import business after the war. Lefton china continued to be produced in Japan through the 1970's. The company was best know as an importer of "Head Vases".
