Harzfeld's was an iconic department store in Kansas City first appearing as the Parisian Cloak Co. in 1891 and continuing to offer fine goods specializing in women's and children's high end apparel at their Petticoat Lane location in 1911. Petticoat Lane was "the place" for fashionable goods in Kansas City through the 1970's in KC. It was Kansas City's main retail thoroughfare much like New York's Fifth Avenue. Harzfeld's expanded to 5 more stores in the Kansas City area and stores in Columbia, MO and Oklahoma. Harzfeld's closed it's stores in the early 1980's. The store was renowned for it's 1947 mural commission for a painting by Thomas Hart Benton. After the store closure, the mural was acquired by the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
DETAILS: Gloves are a soft black French Kid leather size 7 1/2 NOS New Old Stock (dead stock) Longer over the wrist forearm style. They are very soft and flexible. Good color with no worn areas--light areas in photos are sunlight. Approx. 12 1/2-12 3/4" long cuff to finger tip. Approx. 3" measured flat at knuckles. Approx. 4"-4 1/4" middle finger to knuckles. Approx. 5 1/2" base of thumb to cuff. Approx 4 3/8" wide at the cuff measured flat. They are still stitched together and have original cellophane Kislov bag and promotional paperwork. They are stamped inside KISLOV KID Made in France Guaranteed Washable Size 7 1/2 with Original Harzfeld Store Price tag (see photos as they are part of description for condition and details). (Sizing is generally determined by measuring widest part of hand..knuckles with hand slightly flexed...make a fist. This will give a circumference size which usually corresponds to the glove size i.e. 3 1/2" across measured flat is approx. size 7 glove. Fabric gloves do have some slight give for sizing and can be stretched when damp.)
These gloves came from a Multi-Generational estate where I purchased several other pairs of gloves (will be listing more later). The family owned a store that had fine ladies wear. They carried the best in their shop and wore the best themselves. I hand select each pair of gloves that we have in the shop. I wear gloves myself and choose pairs that I would love to have myself.
