It is a Holmes and Edwards International Silver Co Deep Silver Silver Fashion pattern circa 19577. The pattern is sharp and crisp and has deep, beautiful swirling cartouches and shaped bowl. This spoon would be lovely framed. It would be beautiful as a service piece intermingled with your other pieces and patterns. Tabletop setting is always so much more interesting with a variety of pieces and patterns. DIMENSIONS and SPECS: Holmes and Edwards International Silver Deep Silver Silver Fashion Pattern circa 1957 Approx. 9" long Approx 2 5/8" wide across bowl--bowl is approx 3 5/8" long. The term deep silver was used to denote that the pieces were made for heavier use-that they would not wear through as easily. There are some scratches on the spoon bowl from use. Silver is brightly polished and dark areas seen in photos are reflections. Please see photos as they are part of the description.
Some History of the Holmes and Edwards/Rogers Silver/International Silver Co.: Holmes and Edwards Silver began producing silverware in 1882 and was taken over by International Silver in 1897. Rogers Bros silver dates back to the early 19th century. They perfected a process for electroplating in 1847 which in turn made the company a household name. The original company was composed of the 3 Rogers Brothers but they were soon joined by other silversmiths who wanted the privilege of being associated with the name. Lots of companies formed, merged, separated, sold out and were absorbed by each other until today Holmes and Edwards silver is produced by the International Silver Co.
