This is another Tea Cup/Saucer set from the estates of a group of ladies who collected beautiful teacups. It is a typical Mid Century cup and saucer set from a time when women collected teacups to display and to use...pretty on the shelf and pretty in the hand...a perfect indulgence. The lady who collected this cup originally was part of a club where the members exchanged teacups at various events.
We Love Pretty Teacups and are always on the "treasure hunt" for unique and pretty sets to offer in our shops. As members of the Daughters of the British Empire, tea time is a very special part of our life.

DIMENSIONS and SPECS: Teacup is approx. 2 3/4" tall with handle and the saucer is approx. 6" diameter across. The cup is approx. 5" across the top at the handle, including handle. No obvious chips, cracks. Marked Lefton China Hand Painted...an excellent example of the style of mid century Cabinet Cup Collector's China. Lovely plump purple grapes hand painted on cup and saucer with gold accents on edges and body of cup & saucer and on dainty handle. Please see photos as they are part of the description. The Lefton Company was started by George Lefton; a Hungarian immigrant, who came to Chicago in 1939 and imported Japanese china after WWII beginning with items from Occupied Japan. He befriended a Japanese shop keeper whose shop was vandalized after Pearl Harbor and helped him rebuild his shop. The thankful shopkeeper knew that George collected porcelain and had a love of beautiful pieces so he helped him make contacts with Japanese factories so that he could begin his import business after the war. Lefton china continued to be produced in Japan through the 1970's. The company was best know as an importer of "Head Vases".
