To Have and to Hold Mary Johnston, published in (1899) 1900. The novel tells the story of Jamestown, with an exciting story line of Runaway Brides, Arrange Marriage, Shipwreck, Pirates, Capture by Indians, Gallant Hero--an old fashion adventure tale. Just the kind of Story that was a favorite of the Saturday Afternoon Movies in the 1900's. In fact, it was made into a silent movie 3 times. It was the best selling novel of 1900 with many reprints. Originally it was released as a serialize Novel in the Atlantic Monthly. A wonderful book to read and escape the world--take time out to enjoy. A classic adventure with all the right pieces for a good story with the classic old fashion language of the times. It's such a nice book to hold and browse through as it is to read it's quaint tale--lovely to read and lovely to add to your decor. DIMENSIONS and SPECS: Approx. 8" X 5 1/2" X 1 5/8" 403 Pages Houghton, Mifflin And Company Publishers The Riverside Press Cambridge New York & Boston Circa 1900 1st Edition with illustrations by Howard Pyle, E B Thompson A W Betts & Emlen McConnell Lightly toned green cloth boards--with attractive green/olive tone with white floral and gilt title to the front board and spine. It has a decorative gold wired ribbon. There is a slight amount of wear to spine with bumps to cover corners. Some spots on cover but no loss of color. Book has new color tone no fading. Book has stitched pages. Some cracking of inner paper at binding on front cover and back cover due to age of book. There is an inscription on the front page.
